August 2026 ๐ Indiewatch
It's a busy month for indies, so don't miss a beat: here are some of my most anticipated releases for this month!
August โ particularly the first two weeks of this month โ is an exceptionally packed time for indie game fans, especially if you love strong narratives, retro RPGS, cozy vibes, and delightful co-op experiences. There are multiple games launching this month that have the potential to be GOTY contenders for me, so lets get into the ten games I absolutely think you should keep an eye on as they launch. Even if you canโt pick them up right now, feel free to wishlist them to keep track for the future!

Fields of Mistria
Fields of Mistria is leaving Early Access and going into 1.0 on August 5th, available on Steam.
Farming Sim, Life Sim, 90s Anime
I would argue that Fields of Mistria is one of the best farming sims out there, especially if you love 90s anime and classic Harvest Moon. Iโm talking Harvest Moon 64 and Friends of Mineral Town era. The developers of this game not only show their love of this genre by making an incredible game that contains so much of what we love about the genre: it takes what we love and clearly expands upon it all in a variety of meaningful ways. The level of customization in the decoration, your character? So much variety! This is not a game for min/maxing, the goal and focus is more about how you get to know the community and create bonds within the village as you help restore the area after an earthquake. There are so many details I could wax poetic about that make this game feel so full of personality and life: the various outfits for each NPC, the range of dialogue where you can talk to characters multiple times in a day and get context on different activities theyโre engaging with, the ability to use magic to ease tasks like watering a large garden plot, the animations of your animals as they play with toys. Again, I could go on, but this is a game where if you at all enjoy farming sims, life sims, or the art style: you canโt go wrong.
Big Walk
Big Walk is available as of August 4 for Nintendo Switch 2, Steam (PC and Mac,) and PlayStation 5.
Open World, Co-op, Exploration
This may be one of the best games of 2026, and definitely one of the best co-op games Iโve ever played. The premise is simple: the goal is to walk, talk, and enjoy solving communication-based puzzles with your friends. You need at least one other person to play, and puzzles will scale to accommodate up to four peopleโฆbut up to 12 folks can play at the same time. I had the pleasure of participating in the preview event for this game as well as a review key ahead of time to be able to gather my thoughts โ thanks to popagenda โ and as of recording this video, Iโve spent about 10-11 hours in the game (which Iโve been told takes between 12 - 20 hours to complete). Iโve got another video (up here) if youโd like to hear all the details, but for the sake of not going on forever, I truly have few, if any, major critiques. Itโs a game thatโs pleasantly surprised me as a person who normally feels overstimulated after about an hour or two of most multiplayer games โ especially other proximity chat games โ and the way this game has been so intentionally designed to promote collaboration, celebration, and awe is truly inspiring. I need everyone to play this game.
Capy Castaway
Capy Castaway releases August 6 on Steam.
Exploration, Puzzle, Co-op
Capy Castaway is a cozy exploration adventure where a capybara pup and a clever crow solve puzzles, help lost animals, and explore a mysterious island after a devastating flood. Play solo or with a friend in this relaxing narrative adventure about curiosity, friendship, and finding your way home.
Itโs neat that weโve got two co-op games on here. Shoutout to everyone with player twos! But! If you want to play this one solo, youโre in luck: Capy Castaway is a gentle and charming exploration game you can play solo or with a friend. As a cuddly capabara and a clever crow, youโre exploring a mysterious island โ highly inspired by Toronto, where this team is based โ thatโs been impacted by a flood. This flood has washed a variety of zoo animals to this island, and which I find especilaly intriguing is that your choices in this game can unlock one of multiple potential endings! Iโve played this demo and found it thoroughly enjoyable: Iโve only played solo, and when you do that youโll control both characters.
Colorbound
Colorbound is releasing in August 2026 on PC via Steam, Epic, and Humble, Nintendo Switch, Xbox, and PlayStation.
puzzle, platformer, casual
In Colorbound, color is more than just hue. As Anku, an Aymara boy with a unique gift, youโll harness the power of color to shape the environment itself, uncovering hidden paths to navigate challenging and complex puzzles.
Iโve been really looking forward to Colorbound, as it tackles one of my favorite mechanical tropes in games which is manipulating colors to shape the world and solve puzzles! In Colorbound, youโll travel the world to collect colors. When you add them to your palette, youโre able to use them to change the environment and reveal โ or hideโ elements to solve puzzles. The story is a poignant one, which I think adds that extra touch that makes this game more interesting as a whole to me: youโre trying to bring together your late grandfatherโs band to give him a final farewell, exploring themes of grief, love, and the power of art. What also makes this game even more unique is that it draws major inspiration from the teamโs Chilean culture and the Aymara culture of the Andes!
ReStory: Chill Electronics Repairs
Restory is launching August 6th on PC via Steam.
management, repair, sim
I love a tactile game about fixing things. Assemble with Care really was the game that awakened this newfound fantasy for me, and basically since then, any game where you get to put things together or maintain retro objects through repair and cleaning? WHoooo, Iโm in. ReStory is all about running a small electronics repair show in the mid 2000s, so the items you repair will evoke a bunch of nostalgia if youโre old enough to remember that era. Iโve enjoyed the demo and really just want to see how the stories with each customer expand and evolve. I will say, while the mechanics are very cozy in the ways youโre focusing on intimitate details and mundane tasks โ in a postive way โ there are some storylines that are a little less so, like finding disturbing info inside a former gangsterโs phone, so just be ready for potentially darker threads amidst the coziness.
Entropy
Entropy launches into Early Access on August 18 on Windows via Steam.
turn-based, strategy, choices matter
Entropy is a tactical turn-based RPG inspired by classic JRPGs. Assemble your party of mercenaries and forge your own path towards an expedition into hell to stop the demonic incursion. Choices you make along the way will determine the fate of your world.
I stumbled upon this demo while attending The Mix at Summer Game Fest, and while I didn't play the demo there, I saw enough of this RPG that caught my attention that I played the demo once I got back home. I feel tentatively excited for this one: it's got a PlayStation 1 CRT aesthetic that I find nostalgic and fun, the premise is interesting. The world is slowing dying, demons and other creatures are taking over, and only pockets of humans exist across the world. As you travel and explore, you'll build a party of up to six characters, your decisions will impact the fate of the world. I like how gritty this game looks, and the fact that it immediately makes sure you're a little on edge: after all, your party members can be permenantly KO'd, which I always find a little nervewracking. The combat, while still needs a little additional polish is also intriguing: there's a targeting system where, in theory, you'll be able to target parts of enemies to help with battle strategy. I could see this evolving in some really fun ways as the game progresses (and even in the early parts of the demo, felt like it did make a different with the combat).
Nimbit Frontier
Nimbit Frontier releases in Early Access on August 17th on Windows via Steam.
life sim, creature collector, action roguelike
In this cozy creature collector, your creatures aren't for battling. Restore lost species, build habitats around their needs, teach them the skills to thrive, and release them into the wild. Explore town life and dive into shifting roguelite dungeons to discover the next Nimbit.
As a 90s kid who grew up on Pokemon Blue, I am constantly trying out creature collector games to see if any can give me that sense of joy and accomplishment and most importantly, connection to my little collection of critters! And, I'm happy to say we've got another coming up to try: Nimbit Frontier! In this game, we'll delve into the Underwild, rescuing and rehabiliting them. This game is a self described cozy, sci-fi conservation adventure, which I find particularly intriguing, and am really looking forward to seeing how they deliver on that message of conservation and ecological responsibility and stewardship. The game is releasing into Early Access on August 17th.
Sovereign Tower
Sovereign Tower releases on August 6th on Windows via Steam
visual novel, choices matter, medieval
Play as the Sovereign of a magical tower in this story-rich, Round Table management RPG. Recruit eccentric Knights, assign quests and balance egos whilst carving out your kingdom's destiny. If destiny doesnโt go your way, keep turning back time, uncover secrets and rewrite fate again and again.
The first think that hooked me with Sovereign Tower was the beautiful art and colorful, yet muted, palette. I stayed for the Round Table medieval management gameplay, where as the sovereign of the land, you've got tend to your subjects, deploy Knights, shape your kingdom through your decisions, and rule as best as you possibly can. Fortunately, with a little help from a demon, you can turn back time and alter fateโฆbut everything you do can alter the course of your legacy, so make sure to pay attention! The demo for this was a delight, and I can't wait to see what comes of my kingdom when the full game is out on the 6th.
Servant of the Lake
Servant of the Lake releases on August 13th on PC and Mac via Steam, iOS, and Android.
point & click, mystery, puzzle
Begin your new job as a servant at the mysterious Vanderboom estate. Solve puzzles, serve the family and uncover their dark alchemical secrets in Servant of the Lake, a new upcoming single-player point-and-click adventure in the Rusty Lake series.
The Rusty Lake series is one of the best out there for fans of mysterious and macabre point and click puzzle adventures, and this addition to the series looks like it will have everything I love about the IP. We've got a role as a servant in the Vanderboom estate, and as we serve the family, we'll begin to uncover some dark secrets and โ hopefully โ survive through the weekend.
Ambrosia Sky: Act Two
Ambrosia Sky releases on August 6 on PC via Steam and Epic.
sci-fi, story rich, cleaning
For any fans of story-rich and contemplative games about grief, Ambrosia Sky is absolutely worth taking a look. It's my favorite kind of soft sci-fi story: one that focuses on the human emotions and relationships over getting too into the nitty gritty of how things work (although there IS a lot of fascinating scientific inspiration behind the technology and invasive fungi within this game). You play Dalia, a young field scientist sent home on a mission to cleanse a contamination that struck her colony, killing nearly everyone she knew. The first act set up a wide variety of mysteries and subplots involving her ex-girlfriend, a suspicious organization, and political intrigue...not to mention a thoughtful exploration a grief, grieving, and what it means to return home.
This is a very packed month with a lot of indies getting releases out now (especially ahead of the busy fall season in the triple-A space), and I know even more titles are on the way this month: if you've got a favorite I didn't mention that you think I should highlight, or are especially excited for one of the titles listed here, feel free to let me know by writing back.
And, be sure to follow this publication (and my YouTube channel) if you'd like to get more indie game recommendations!
